The Author Charles Duchesne
Who am I?
I am a 46-year-old family man with a wife and two children. A completely ordinary person with a day job that has nothing to do with writing.
When I was a teenager, I used to invent episodes of my own imaginary series, or expand existing ones like Highlander, which I remember very clearly. I even created a series where the hero — already named Jonathan — was a space fighter pilot living on an aircraft carrier cruiser with his squadron, experiencing all kinds of adventures. I should have written them down at the time, as they could have become material for my future stories.
Why a Novel Series Instead of a TV Series?
I originally wanted to write television series scripts, but that felt as impossible as trying to turn back time by spinning the planet in reverse like in Superman 3. That’s why I turned to novel writing, which gives me total freedom and complete control over the story I want to tell — even though I would love to see Altruisme adapted for the screen one day. Some scenes from the books would work perfectly on screen, and there are even passages I couldn’t fully convey in writing. Conversely, novels allow me to add much more depth to the characters and leave room for the reader’s imagination, whereas a screen adaptation would limit it.
